The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra directed by Dorothy Savitch returns to the Brooklyn Museum for its annual presentation of Prokofiev’s classic “Peter and the Wolf,” set within the galleries of the Brooklyn Museum, telling the story of a young boy, Peter, who is taking an art class at the museum. This wonderful event is a huge draw for the entire family. Join us for Waltz the Night Away, a benefit concert for the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Community Orchestra.Party Like It’s The ’90s (the 1890s)!  Waltz the night away in Park Slope to support the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra.  Enjoy music by the orchestra, dance lessons with Laurie Shayler and Dance Connection, and a performance by Jazz vocalist Toby Williams.

Drinks and dessert are included.

Violin Masterclass in honor of Dr. Suzuki’s Birthday

Allen Lieb has been mentor to our Suzuki program since its inception over 10 years ago. It is a great honor to play for him. We very much hope you will be able to join us.

Violin Masterclass in honor of Dr. Suzuki’s Birthday
with special guest Allen Lieb
Sunday, October 232 – 6 PM (specific schedule forthcoming)

There will be a group class from 3 – 4 PM, and masterclasses from 2 – 3 PM, and from 4 – 6 PM.

Allen Lieb received his M.M. in Violin Performance from SIU/Edwardsville, studying Suzuki pedagogy with John Kendall. He holds a Teacher Training Certificate from the Talent Education Research Institute in Matsumoto, Japan following several years’ instruction with Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki. A registered Teacher-Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas since 1981, Mr. Lieb has taught institutes, workshops and conferences across the United States, Canada, Central America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He is Chair of the SAA Violin Committee, the SAA liaison to the International Suzuki Association Violin Committee and a member of the SAA Heritage Committee. Mr. Lieb is Head of the Violin Department and Instructor for the Teacher-Training Seminar at The School for Strings. He is also a violin instructor at The Diller-Quaile School of Music where he was a recipient of the 2012 Clifford/Levy Creativity Grant. For 13 years, Mr. Lieb served as Curriculum Coordinator for the Newark Early Strings Program, a Suzuki-based violin program jointly sponsored by the Newark Public Schools and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, for which he was recognized with the 2008 Samuel Antek Award for Music Education.

Celebrate with us on October 14!

On Friday, October 14, please join us from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in the Concert Hall, to celebrate Dr. Suzuki’s birthday!
Drinks and light refreshments will be served, along with pizza and juice for the kids, and of course Birthday Cake.
There will be a special performance by Suzuki faculty, followed by fun activities for the kids upstairs, including Face Painting, Origami, and more!

Life Lens illuminates the learning style, pace, motivation and other critical elements that will inform and transform teaching and communication. Both teachers and parents will see the positive home practice results!

Brooklyn Conservatory Summer Strings Workshop July 18 – 22!

This five-day workshop will take place from July 18 – July 22, for ages 8 to 16, with a focus on strengthening reading skills, exposure/experience playing ensemble repertoire, ensemble skills, and fun!

Brooklyn Conservatory Summer Strings Workshop is a drop-off workshop open to violin, viola, cello, guitar and piano students playing at level late Suzuki book 1 and up and NYSMA level 1 and up. (Students age seven by July 1 may be eligible with Suzuki Director’s recommendation.)

Please share widely! Students do NOT need to be enrolled in a Suzuki program to participate.
Tuition: $575 (8:30 – 4 PM); After Care $100 (4 – 5 PM)
Minimum 20 total participants; minimum six per instrument

Sample schedule:
8:30 – 9 AM Drop Off
9:00 – 10:15 AM Rehearsal/Masterclass/Technique
10:30 – 11:45 AM Rehearsal/Masterclass/Technique
12 – 1 PM Lunch
1:15 – 2 PM Elective

4 – 5 PM After Care
